I too am currently working on eliminating some of those distractions. Awhile ago I pretty much eliminated secular songs as you did and now am working on eliminating much of the TV I watch which is a bit more difficult because my family may not be on the same page I am at the moment. I struggle with overeating and often hear people say I just can't control my eating to which I say you... NO, God... YES. I rely heavily on verses like you mentioned along with James 4:7, 1 Corinthians 10:13, and Galatians 5:22-23 among others.
